Once again, we traveled to Las Vegas for the annual Hollywood Dodgers basketball tournament. We stayed at the Desert Paradise Resort, but this time booked a two bedroom unit. The Angels won one game, while the Ponies were shutout this year, but we all had fun just being in Las Vegas.

Stephanie played with the El Segundo High School girls basketball team played in the San Diego Classic this weekend. It is supposedly the largest high school girls basketball tournament in the country, with over 300 girls high school basketball teams competing from Thursday through Sunday. This is the first time in seven years that ESHS has played in the tournament, with new head coach Kelly Geis setting a competitive tone early on. The Lady Eagles went 3-3 in the tournament, playing in a very competitive Open bracket.
Ron, Iris, and Morgan also made the trip down to San Diego to watch the first game on Thursday evening and the second game Friday afternoon. We stayed at the same hotel as the team: the Ramada Mission Valley. It was a fun trip, getting to know the players on the team and their parents.

As we have done every Memorial Day weekend, the three girls (Iris, Stephanie, and Morgan) played in the Tigers Invitational Basketball Tournament. Iris’ team lost both of their games. Stephanie’s team, the Venice Angels, lost their first two but won their last game. One of their former teammates, Ashley, had flown in from Alabama and was able to play with them, again. It was a nice little reunion.
Morgan’s team, the Venice Ponies, took third place, Girls 5th Grade Silver. They easily won their first game, but were defeated by a very tall team from San Francisco in their second game. Their third game was close, a see-saw battle against a long-time rival, the 98 Tigerettes, but the Ponies ended up winning by 3.
For Stephanie’s team, the Angels, Ashley Gaston made a special trip from Alabama to play. However, the focus of the weekend for them was all about the Saturday night dance.
