Stephanie suffered a fracture in her fibula during the first game of the San Diego Classic. We first thought it was a bad sprain, but we took her to an urgent care office that night and the x-ray showed a fracture. Stephanie stayed in San Diego for the rest of the tournament, and we went to an orthopedist the following Monday. The ortho confirmed it was a fracture, and Stephanie is now in a cast for the next six weeks.
Ron, Stephanie, and Morgan ran the Run For Education, which is a 5K run through the streets of El Segundo. This is the second year Morgan has run the race; she gets extra credit for PE when she runs, so there’s some motivation for her. Ron and Stephanie have run this for several years.
It’s a hilly course, with a steep uphill grade about two-thirds of the way through on Sycamore Ave between Center Street and Maryland Ave. The race is sponsored by the El Segundo PTA.
Stephanie competed for El Segundo High in a multi-school surf meet in Hermosa Beach. Other schools competing were Redondo Union, Mira Costa, San Pedro, Palos Verdes, and South Torrance. Stephanie placed fourth in the Girls Long Board competition, beating out the surfer from Redondo Union and San Pedro. Also competing that day were Stephanie’s friends, Kristin and Samantha.

We took Stephanie’s friend, Kimberley Davey, who was over on a holiday from England, to Disneyland for the evening. It happened that the Sangha Teens from Venice Hongwanji Buddhist Temple were also at Disneyland for the day, so the girls were able to join up with them, and Morgan had a friend to go on the rides with.

Stephanie played with the El Segundo High School girls basketball team played in the San Diego Classic this weekend. It is supposedly the largest high school girls basketball tournament in the country, with over 300 girls high school basketball teams competing from Thursday through Sunday. This is the first time in seven years that ESHS has played in the tournament, with new head coach Kelly Geis setting a competitive tone early on. The Lady Eagles went 3-3 in the tournament, playing in a very competitive Open bracket.
Ron, Iris, and Morgan also made the trip down to San Diego to watch the first game on Thursday evening and the second game Friday afternoon. We stayed at the same hotel as the team: the Ramada Mission Valley. It was a fun trip, getting to know the players on the team and their parents.

Stephanie graduated from El Segundo Middle School (eigth grade), and will be attending El Segundo High School in the fall. She made Principal’s Honor Roll all three years and her final report card was all A+’s and A’s (much better than Ron ever was).
Thanks to Beth Paz for the pic of Stephanie getting her “certificate.”

Girl Scout Troop 5325, the one Stephanie and Morgan belong to, held their annual Court of Awards. Morgan received her Bronze Award for her volunteer hours at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter. Morgan bridged over from Juniors to Cadettes, and Stephanie bridged from Cadettes to Seniors.
